even close. All vitality is missing in this flat and uninvolving and unpleasant tale - he is just
barely going through the motions of sticking one sentence after another.
Should never have seen publication -- too bad all around.

One thing to note they are not what we would consider "books" today, although they are still being called that when they are sold. They are more like "chapters" that have been bound separately. So, get as many at one time as you can. This vintage hardback has two books in it, but it only takes about three hours to read the whole thing.
The first two of Leiber's books in one. All of the Fafhrd and Grey Mouser books are masterworks.
If you collect great fantasy, then you need at least one Fritz Lieber story/novel on your shelf. This is very non-cliché fantasy.

I love the idea of two heroes getting hammered and then deciding that it would be a good idea to break into a thieves guild. Reminds me of college.

The writing style is a little dated, but this guy has paved the way for your modern heroes/villains that are not in a black/white world.
This contains only one short story from a longer collection of works by the same name, it is the story of how Fafhrd and the Mouser met.
Some of the greatest fantasy short stories ever told.

I am reading these for the third time. My girlfriend loves them, also.

In addition get the comic adaptation by the artist who did the cover and inside drawings Mike Mignola. He created and wrote and drew Hellboy. Great adaptation.
If I were to suggest a primer to introduce new folks into the Sword & Sorcery genre, it would be a toss up between Howard's Conan and Leiber's Lankhmar, and this one is definitely a must for those who are interested in reading the fiction that served as one of the root inspirations for Dungeons & Dragons.
