Although a little bit long-winded (no pun intended!) at times, the story centres around a government where its leader, the Prophet, has made eating food illegal & declared that society should survive by eating air. If you're caught eating food, you're sent to Fat Camp for retraining. Militia & government spy departments aplenty to reinforce the ideology & impose censorship.Of course, like the prohibition laws in early last century this leads to crime etc, with people 'all the way to the top' breaking the law and eating food on the sly. Does this sound like a familiar scenario?
The story is related by a fanatic real-believer of the cause over a hostage situation broadcast over French national TV network, because they are a food-eating nation which refuses to follow the Prophet's ideology.
Many global governments and their departmental grovellers would be able to be slotted into this satire, which (I believe) points the finger at A LOT of laws & ideas that are imposed on society without any thought about ramifications nor scientific fact. Of course, behind closed doors, the same people either break the same law/s or benefit from it in some way to the detriment of society &/or individuals.

just missed the mark.
Good enough that I was compelled to finish the entire book, even though I was pretty sure it was bad for my mental health.
A thought-provoking read. I didn't know quite what to expect when I downloaded the book, but found it so easy to read, that I just sort of slid into it. The themes are hard-hitting, and the satire bites, but it is beautifully written. The author is as funny as he is savage - beware! He will make you think.
Pulling no punches Porup takes aim directly at the heart of America's "Policemen of the World" mentality, and in doing so, exposes some of what America doesn't understand about itself. He does it in a satirical, backhanded and often hilarious way. Watch for the little things that remind you of the other things. Yes it's over the top. Yes, you will groan sometimes. Yes, it takes a dirty nailed finger and pokes America's bruised ego. But in all great satire there is truth, and it's here.
A triumph of satirical writing.
Sadly enough this book is a warning and hopefully a wake-up call for American people about blindly following not only a president but government in general. We need to wake up to what goes on around us daily. Otherwise really enjoyed the book and enthusiastically recommend it to everyone.
I found this book to be very funny, with two caveats the book is funnier if you have read the previous book entitled "Food Free At Last How I Learned To Eat Air."
That book sets up the story for this book, which uses the idea of becoming the United States of Air. Anyone who eats food is a "food terrorist."
A funny political satire, although one should be warned that some of the humour is rather adolescent in nature.
Now I am not ordinarily a fart/poo type of girl, but I've got to say that while this book grossed me out in a couple of spots, in many others it had me laughing so hard that my stomach still hurts! This story grabs you from the start and really makes you think about the absurd lengths governments can and do sometimes go to in making laws and gives a whole new meaning to big brother is watching you.
While this is satirical humor at it's best, the book also manages to tell a compelling story. With some politicians pushing for limits on fat, pop, fast food and other things that can add pounds to people maybe this book is still a stretch, but it made me think (a good thing) and it will be interesting to see just how far they try to take things.
