3.5 starsWriting, romance and two incredibly stubborn characters makes for one interesting love story. I have really come to admire Jennifer's realistic, raw and honest writing style. It makes her stories feel more relatable to me, and it's one of the things I love about each of her books that I've read. With this story I enjoyed the way the two characters, Erin and Hunter battled out their feelings for each other through out the entire story. It was obvious from the get go that they were in love with another, but their denial created some addicting tensions between the two of them. I loved the creative way we learn about both Erin & Hunter's past history together, which is through the stories they both write and share with their creative writing class in college. Each story seemed liked a jab to the two of them, but it was evident to me that this was the beginning of a love story that started taking place between them years before.
I admire Erin's character, even though she is incredibly stubborn. She had it all, but she's working her butt off to support herself as a freshman in college, in NYC. Some of us know how hard that is, and then throw in working and going to school in NYC on top of that, and you'll admire the drive Erin has. Her perfect match is Hunter, and he's just as stubborn as she is, though he can be a little more smooth about the things he does. Speaking of that, he does a few things that made me want to slap him like Erin does. She also does a few stupid things too, but that's one of the things I like about the two of them. They're imperfect and flawed and have a complicated history together, and somehow they figure out a way to work through all that. I enjoyed the way their complicated history together unravels, and getting to understand the two of them more.
Normally I'm totally impatient when it comes to swoon-worthy moments, and it's not often you'll hear me say this, but I love the fact that Jennifer has a way of making her readers wait for those moments. It makes the story seem more credible and it of course invests me as a reader even more so, because I want to know what happens between the two characters. That's one of the reasons I was hooked on this story. I also really liked that this story centers on two characters who are starting their freshman year in college. It's during this time in life things are exciting and complicated and I felt that factored into Erin's story well. This is a story that I think YA fans and fans who love a good cross over will enjoy. I feel fans of Jennifer Echols will really enjoy Love Story. This is a good read and one I enjoyed. There is some mild language in this story, and tastefully written sensual scenes that may not make this suitable for younger YA readers.

Love Story Jennifer Echols 9781439178324 Books Reviews
I enjoyed Going Too Far and Forget You, so I was extremely excited to read yet another one of Echols' books. I was not disappointed and I only wish we had gotten more of Erin and Hunter's story.
I liked how Echols included some of the stories Erin and Hunter wrote for their creative writing class within the story. It made some of the revelations about their history more interesting than simply telling it in the main story. You still got their back story, but it was not only from Erin or Hunter's point of view, but from the characters they wrote.
I wish there had been a little bit more written about the class, the publishing internship, their relationship, as well as something more with her grandmother. It felt a little cut off and some of those loose ends weren't tied up enough for the story to be really over. I felt like there could have been another couple of chapters to really end the story.
I can't wait to read what else Echols writes in the future.
I am a fan of Jennifer Echols (having loved Going Too Far and Forget You) and was looking forward to Love Story for months. I pre-ordered the book as soon as it was available and waited anxiously to receive it. But before I could read the book, I did something bad---something I never do. I read other people's reviews (usually I wait to read other reviews after I have written my own review). And they were for the most part lackluster. I lost my excitement over Love Story and could not get the anticipation back. I finally decided to read it for myself, and sadly, I agree with most of the reviews I read Love Story is a good book but something was off.
Let me start with what I liked. I like the way Echols writes. I love her attention to detail. I love the way she builds relationships---they usually progress slowly, so that when the characters finally get together it means more to me. I especially like the way Echols writes teenagers. The portrayal feels so realistic and her books really take me back to my teen years.
While Love Story was a good read, it was nowhere nearly as good as Going Too Far or Forget You for me. To be perfectly honest, the first line of the story turned me off I hate the name Captain Vanderslice and those initial feelings of dislike set the tone of the book for me. I know that's shallow and judgemental of me, but those are the facts. I never really connected with Erin and the "poor rich girl" act got old for me. It felt like it took forever to get some chemistry between Erin and Hunter---although I did enjoy their story, I just didn't love it. Something about the book as a whole felt lacking for me. In fact, as soon as I closed the cover on Love Story, I went straight to my bookshelf and picked up Going Too Far for a re-read. Now, that's a book I can get excited about!
If you are new to Jennifer Echols, I would recommend starting with Going Too Far or Forget You. Love Story was a good read, but not her best (in my opinion).
